In what could be a big boost for the Indian cricket team, Hardik Pandya has been cleared by the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) to take part in the three-match series against Afghanistan. The all-rounder, who sustained a back injury during the IPL 2026, checked into the facility on June 2 to undergo assessment in order to obtain clearance to play in the ODI series. Pandya was named in the India squad but there were doubts over his availability due to fitness issues.
Hardik Pandya cleared for ODI comeback
As per Dainik Jagaran, Pandya has successfully proved his fitness at the BCCI’s CoE. The report adds that officials at the centre have submitted a positive fitness report to the BCCI, clearing the path for Hardik to return to action. Pandya last played in an ODI way back in March 2025. The all-rounder obtaining fitness clearance comes a relief for Team India, who are already dealing with injuries to Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
Pandya was last seen in action during the IPL 2026. He had a sub-par season as a player and an even more miserable one as captain. He scored 206 runs and picked up 4 wickets in the season. MI finished at the 9th spot on the points table and failed to make it to the playoffs for the 2nd time in 3 seasons. Reports also claimed that Hardik was mentally stressed and has conveyed his decision to the franchise to part ways with the team.
Pandya has played 94 ODIs to date and has 1904 runs at an average of 32.82, while he has picked up 91 wickets. There were a lot of questions on if Hardik can bowl 10 overs and if his body can cope with the challenges of playing a 50-over game. It remains to be seen how he will fare in the seies against Afghanistan.
