With the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 progressing into the final stage of league fixtures, in match 60, the three-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will be hosting the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the reverse fixture on May 16 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Shubman Gill & Co. will become the first qualifiers for the IPL 2026 playoffs if they win tonight, eliminating KKR. Kolkata will be within distance to spoil Gujarat’s hope while keeping their bare minimum qualification chances alive. Moreover, KKR, who are sweating on a few players’ availability, finally broke the silence on mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy.

The spinner has been an important part of the KKR bowling unit and missed the match against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) with a suspected hairline fracture in his left foot. Although Ajinkya Rahane only claimed it to be a niggle, the franchise, on the eve of the game, confirmed that he has resumed bowling in the nets, marking a positive step in his recovery.

“He bowled in the nets today at Eden Gardens. The medical team and coaching staff are keeping a close eye on his progress and availability for tomorrow,” KKR said in an official statement. Notably, this is the second time Chakaravarthy has suffered an injury in this season after missing a couple of games in the first half due to a hand injury.

The Knight Riders have played 11 games so far, in which they have won 4 and lost 6, with one ending in a no result, and are at the bottom half of the points table (8th place). With only 3 games left for them, a win in all of them could still keep them mathematically in the playoffs. However, they would also rely on teams like Sunrisers Hyderabad, Chennai Super Kings, Punjab Kings, and Rajasthan Royals’ results.
